Himin launches new water heating solutions
By Yu Hongyan (chinadaily.com.cn)
Updated: 2009-11-17 15:58 Himin Solar Energy Group launches its latest solar water heating solutions, named "3G", on Nov 16, a move to further consolidate its leading position in China's solar thermal industry. The Shangdong-based company has also set up a bundle of experiencing centers nationwide to promote life styles created through its solar water heating technologies. As China's top maker of solar water heater, Himin produces 2 million sq m of solar water heaters annually, equaling the total amount produced in the EU, and twice that in North America, according to company figures. As of 2008, inventory of China's solar water heaters came to 125 million sq m, accounting for 76 percent of the world's total, said Meng Xian'gan, deputy director-general of China Renewable Energy Society. This is able to replace the use of 18.75 million tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide releases by 27.88 million tons, Meng said.
As developed countries impose carbon taxes, China should promote solar photovoltaic technology and solar thermal power generation technology to reduce carbon emission, said He Zuoxiu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. "As for Himin, it should sharpen its edge over solar middle-temperature (150C-200C) power generation, which is important for emissions cuts," He said. Himin got $100m investment from Goldman Sachs and CDH Investment last year, and the company is still preparing for listing on a domestic stock exchange, according to a previous China Daily report. It is now building the Dezhou-based China Solar Valley, where the 4th World Solar City Conference will be held in September 2010. The 300-hectare community is to be equipped with its solar technologies, and is expected to be completed by September 2010. (For more biz stories, please visit Industries)
