Nordic cleantech ventures focus on Chinese market

Some Nordic cleantech ventures on Tuesday expressed their hope to find investors for further development, specially in Chinese market.

A total of 25 cutting edge small Nordic cleantech companies presented their technologies ranging from solar and wind power to efficient biogas and wave energy to investors coming from around the world at Stockholm Cleantech Venture Day 2009.

All these companies mentioned that they were interested in the Chinese markets. Two of them said they had already contacted with some Chinese companies.

"In northern China, there is good wind, for example in Beijing," said Stig Walter Karlsson, representing Energytower. He believed his company's wind equipment can be built in Beijing's buildings, while the outside form can be designed according to Chinese style.

"There is a need for a big change in the business model as the world is going to hold the climate meeting in Copenhagen to discuss the commitment to keep the global temperature change within 2 degrees," said Swedish State Secretary Ola Altera, who is also in charge of enterprise, energy and communications.

Stockholm's Vice Mayor Ulla Hamilton told Xinhua that this was a typical way that the government guided companies to develop cleantech.

"We set up ambitious goals in reducing environmental impacts. This way, the companies must find the new ways to realize the goal," said Hamilton.
