China International Marine Containers (Group) Co (CIMC), the world's largest shipping container maker, said net profit for the first quarter jumped 11.81 percent from a year earlier.

The Shenzhen-based company said its first-quarter turnover was 10.2 billion yuan, up from 5.5 billion yuan a year earlier.

CIMC attributed the rise in quarterly net profit to higher demand for containers. In the first three months, it sold 470,400 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers, up 69.33 percent from a year earlier. Sales of cargo vehicles jumped 44.79 percent to 1.99 billion yuan.
