Carmakers to roll out hybrid electric vehicles

After six years of research, many car companies are getting ready to produce hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) on a large scale.

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp presented its HEVs at the recent Shanghai Auto Show. Meanwhile, Chery plans to release its HEV with a nickel-hydrogen cell within this year and Changan’s industrialization of HEV will be launched in 2008.

Shanghai Volkswagen will provide 500 HEVs for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and go into large-scale production before the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition.
