Finance: Zinc futures likely to debut in 2007

China's zinc futures are being reviewed for approval by a government body, said a senior official at the Shanghai Futures Exchange.

The exchange is "confident" that the futures will be launched this year, said Chen Jianping, senior director of the marketing department of the SFE. Commodities trading broke records in China in 2006 as the world's fastest-growing major economy has turned the country into the world's biggest consumer of commodities such as steel, copper, soy and rice.
