"Our goal is to build the zone into a modern and comprehensive industrial park," Wen said.

In addition to industrial parks and development zones, Dadongcheng is also highlighted by a commercial boom.

During more than 10 years of development, local markets have grown into a regional business hotspot.

Among the market cluster, the Gaoqiao business circle plays a leading role.

The business circle, situated at the core of Dadongcheng, consists of eight markets, which posted an annual trade volume of more than 10 billion yuan (US$1.25 billion).

The Gaoqiao markets not only serve as a commercial hub of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city group, but also attract businesspeople from neighbouring provinces including Jiangxi and Hubei, said a source with the local market administrative authority.

With the advance of the construction of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city group, the local markets are expected to play an even greater role in Dadongcheng's rise, experts said.

Dynamic industries and flourishing commerce are connected with a widespread transportation network.

With an airport, two railway stations and three expressways, the emerging Dadongcheng has convenient transportation.

According to Changsha's municipal planning, a light rail will be put into operation in 2010, with Dadongcheng located at the centre. The advantageous position is expected to facilitate further growth of the emerging economy.
