Jilin Province is well prepared for the Sixth Winter Asian Games to be held
in its capital city Changchun from January 28 to February 4, 2007, according to
An Li, secretary-general of the organizing committee of the Games.
The
construction and renovation of the five gymnasiums, one stadium, and three
sports centres to be used by the Games have basically been completed.
The
newly built Jilin Provincial Speed Skating Rink and Fu'ao Ice Hockey Rink are
ready to be put into trial operations, while the refurbishment of the Five-Ring
Gymnasium, Jilin Provincial Skating Rink and Changchun Municipal Skating Rink
have been completed.
Ninety per cent of the renovation project of Beidahu
Ski Slope is finished, with the rest to be completed by the end of
August.
The installation of internal facilities for the Registration,
Certification and Data Centre began recently, while the TV Broadcasting Centre
and the News Centre will both be established before November.
Changchun
has also invested 40 million yuan (US$5 million) to refurbish the Changchun
Sports Centre in an all-round fashion, making it a highlight among the gyms and
stadiums being used for the event.
Approved by the Olympic Council of
Asia, the Sixth Winter Asian Games will have five sports, 10 disciplines and 47
events, including speed skating, short track speed skating, figure skating, ice
hockey, curling and skiing.
The organizing committee sent the Technical
Manuals for Single Events to the Olympic committees of all participating
countries in May this year.
The design of the medals, certificates of
award, and credentials have been done.
To allow TV audience to better
enjoy the gripping matches, the organizing committee invested more than 10
million yuan (US$1.3 million) in buying special TV broadcast vehicles.
