Another interesting trend is private enterprises in Fujian are showing an increasing interest in investment projects in the western part of China.

Experts said reinforcing communication between the eastern and the western parts of China and boosting regional co-operation had become a trend in economic development on the Chinese mainland.

There will be many projects from West China participating in the CIFIT this year, opening their doors to more overseas and domestic investors. Meanwhile, it is a perfect opportunity for Fujian's local investors to find business opportunities in West China.

According to official statistics, the private economy of Fujian contributes more than 60 per cent to the development of the whole province, accounting for 65 per cent of Fujina's gross domestic product (GDP).

From April 4 to 10, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, held a forum on investment and co-operation between eastern and western China.

During the forum, more than 30 private enterprises from Fujian consulted the related departments of Shaanxi on the investment policies of the province, and handed in letters of intent for investment on the spot.

An official of the Fujian Chamber of Commerce in Shaanxi said more than 200 private enterprises of Fujian are investing in Shaanxi, with investments of more than 20 billion yuan (US$1.25 billion).

"Actually, we appreciate the investment environment in Shaanxi, as Shaanxi is a big energy producer," said Wu Qiyu, the chamber's vice-president.
