China Unicom wants global telecom carriers to speed up deployment of IoT

A senior executive of China Unicom said 5G ecosystem and the cooperation of information and communication technology alliance should be promoted, as well as the global deployment of internet of things (IoT) should be speeded up in collaboration with partners worldwide.

Lu Yimin, general manager of China Unicom, said on Tuesday that China Unicom has carried out innovations in the fields of internet of things, cloud computing, financial payment, video, etc. It has also quickened the network construction in the countries and regions related to the Belt and Road Initiative, and plans to carry out 5G tests in key cities across the country this year, according to Lu.

The key of connecting "online silk road" is to boost the construction of IoT infrastructure, said Jiang Zhengxin, deputy general manager of China Unicom. The company called for global telecom carriers and parties related to the IoT industry chain to build the global connectivity capacity of IoT and speed up the deployment of IoT around the world.
