Students hold the future of cyberculture in their hands

Internet Dreams of Chinese and American College Students

Last December, when Lu Wei, director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, attended the 7th US-China Internet Industry Forum in Washington, he extended an invitation to college students in the US to come to China.

They accepted, and on Wednesday, about 400 college students from the US and China attended the Forum on Internet Culture and Communication.

The organizers, including the Cyberspace Administration of China and the All-China Youth Federation, hope that college students from both countries make a joint contribution to Internet cooperation between the two countries.

Ren Xianliang, deputy minister of the Cyberspace Administration of China, said he hoped that students post and spread positive messages, rather than be involved in verbal violence or hacker attacks.

Young students are the most active Internet users; they are also the participants and creators of Internet cultures－that's why we often say we will get the Internet culture that young students decide. I hope that college students from China and the US work together to make contributions to the establishment of a better international Internet governance system and a better cyberspace.

In China, more than 80 percent of Internet users are young people, and in the United States, 96 percent of young people use the Internet. The Internet can directly affect young people's way of thinking and acting, and the development of the Internet also relies greatly on young people. I hope that young people from China and the US could join hands to protect the Internet just like we protect the air, earth and water.
