HARBIN - Technology by a Chinese company will be used in the second screen of Russian company Yota's dual-screen YotaPhone, after the two enterprises announced a deal on Monday.

The novel smartphone has a second E Ink display on its back, which can provide various notifications and messages.

Guangzhou-based OED Technologies specializes in research, development and manufacture of electronic paper displays.

The YotaPhone got a big blast of publicity in China when Russian President Vladimir Putin gave one to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a gift during the 2014 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting in Beijing.

Yota CEO Vladislav Martynov said the company is seeking to cooperate with more specialist companies to improve its products.
