Huawei Technologies Co Ltd said its sales revenue jumped by a third in the first half of this year, hitting 175.9 billion yuan ($28 billion).

The Shenzhen, Guangdong-based telecom equipment giant also enjoys an 18 percent operating margin, the company said in a statement on Monday.

Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei, said its smartphone business has been making "solid progress" in the first half.

"Huawei's mid-range and high-end smartphones, Mate7 and P8 in particular, helped us guarantee quality and sustainable growth in the consumer business," Meng said.

Huawei shipped out nearly 50 million smartphones in the January-June period, according to Yu Chengdong, head of the consumers market.

The shipment was around 34 million in the first half of 2014.

In the carrier business, the most profitable sector for Huawei, the company kept a "steady growth", because China is building its fourth-generation networks and global data traffic growth drove investment in network capacity expansion, Meng said.

The company also started to experience accelerated growth in enterprise business, boosted by increasing demands for cloud computing, storage and other products in the smart city, finance and education markets, Huawei said.

Huawei is not a listed company and it did not disclose earnings for the various sectors.
