-- Most of the country suffers severe floods, with Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Heilongjia and Jilin provinces and Inner Mongolia sustaining heavy losses. More than 3,000 people are killed. Some 300,000 troops are deployed for rescue and relief.
