As the first hotel to surpass the 1 million guestrooms mark, the Marriott International, was the world's biggest hotel company in 2016, according to the latest HOTELS' 325 report released by HOTELS Magazine.

The report has been ranking the world's biggest hotel companies by the number of guestrooms for 46 consecutive years.

Chinese hotel companies are standing out this year, the report said. Three of the top 10 biggest hotel companies in 2016 are headquarted in Beijing or Shanghai.
