Bulgarian PM discusses investment opportunities with Chinese business representatives

Agencies | Updated: 2017-01-12 10:13

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met on Wednesday with representatives of three Chinese companies who are in the Balkan country to explore investment opportunities.

Representatives of the Chinese companies -- Alibaba Group, GS-Solar Company and GoldPoly Group -- said their interest in Bulgaria came as a result of the good relations that Borissov had established with the Chinese leaderships, the Bulgarian government said in a statement.

Bulgaria's high-level participation in the "16+1" cooperation mechanism has contributed to the intensification of bilateral business contacts in recent years, the statement said.

The "16+1" refers to China and the 16 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries.

E-commerce giant Alibaba Group is mulling to set up a logistics center in Bulgaria to serve orders in Europe, according to the government statement.

Solar module producer GS-Solar Company considers establishing a plant for production of solar panels, it added.

In 2014, China and Bulgaria announced the establishment of an all-round friendly cooperative partnership in order to cement traditional friendship and promote cooperation between the two nations.
