It was the first high-level meeting since China took over the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2015. The deputies reached broad agreement on the agenda, priorities and work program in 2016 and discussed various issues including the global economy, framework for strong, sustainable and balanced growth, international financial architecture, financial sector reform, international tax cooperation, green finance and climate finance.
As one of the important engagement groups of G20, T20 is a crucial platform for global think tank representatives to contribute their wisdom and thoughts to the G20. The T20 China Kickoff Meeting marked the first G20 engagement event in China.
Delegates discussed energy access, clean energy, energy efficiency, global energy governance, implementation of previous commitments, and agreed to work together towards further progress through this year’s G20 energy agenda.
Delegates shared views on pro-employment macro-economic policies, unemployment, labor market skills forecast, workplace safety and adaptability, effectiveness of vocational training.
Ministers and governors stressed the importance of using all policy tools – monetary, fiscal and structural – individually and collectively to respond to risks, boost confidence and strengthen economic growth.
Delegates discussed income distribution, social protection, working conditions, G20 Entrepreneurship Action Plan, Multi-Year Agenda of the G20 Employment Working Group, and G20 Labor and Employment Ministerial Meeting Declaration.
The meeting, the third Agriculture Ministers Meeting since the G20 was established, was held against the backdrop of the still challenging situation in global food security, commitment of all countries to eradication of hunger and poverty.
Consensus was reached on this year’s major expected outcomes under the G20 finance track. Related outcomes are ready for submission to the third G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting to be held in Chengdu for approval.
As one of the specialized ministerial meeting before the G20 Hangzhou Summit, this meeting, which Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli attended, was themed Shaping a Low-carbon, Smart and Sharing Energy Future.
The meeting adopted the Ministerial Meeting Declaration with 5 outcome Annexes, including G20 Entrepreneurship Action Plan and G20 Initiative to Promote Quality Apprenticeship.
Ministers and governors agreed that the global economic recovery continues but remains weaker than desirable, and downside risks persist and pointed out that G20 members are taking actions to foster confidence and support growth.
