China builds economic and trade zones in 33 countries

China has built 69 overseas economic and trade cooperation zones in 33 countries and has helped host countries create 149,000 jobs, the Ministry of Commerce said.

Companies in the zones have invested $6.76 billion, including $3.42 billion for infrastructure development.

There are currently 1,088 companies operating in the zones and 688 have Chinese capital involved. They have paid $1.29 billion in taxes to local government in host countries.

Some 48 overseas economic and trade cooperation zones are located in 18 countries along the Belt and Road Initiative and have generated $27.93 billion to date.
