Global logistics leader UPS announced on Thursday that it will extend its reach in China into more second and third tier cities.

A fourth phase of UPS's strategy in China refers to a larger presence in another eight lower tier cities.

An additional 13 cities located in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang and Chongqing have seen UPS setting up their new operations by Sept 7 this year at the latest.

Customers in these cities will have direct access to UPS's full portfolio of services, innovative technology solutions, global network, customs brokerage and management expertise.

The time needed to reach key markets to or from Asia, Europe and the United States will be shortened by up to two days.

"China's manufacturing industry is undergoing a rapid paradigm shift characterized by a move towards high value sectors, innovation and global connectivity. Chinese exporters are now adopting a more customer-centric approach, which requires more collaborative partnerships and logistics support," said Richard Loi, president of UPS China.

UPS entered China in 1988 and currently serves over 300 Chinese cities across the country.
