S. China airport suspended from adding routes or flights

BEIJING - The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has suspended South China's Shenzhen airport from adding flights and routes, or charter flight applications, due to its ineffective handling of flight delays.

The suspension started on Aug 1 and will last until the year end.

In May alone, several mass disturbances happened including angry people opening the cabin door and fights between airline staff and incensed passengers.

The administration decided to give criticism about the Shenzhen Airlines and China United Airlines for their poor management after flight delays and cancellations caused by heavy rain angered passengers.

The chaos was mainly caused by a lack of capability and resources in dealing with delays, the CAAC said, while urging institutions to fulfill their responsibilities and attach great importance to ensuring the normal functioning of flights.
