The Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, China's cabinet, on Feb 3 published a draft regulation on recalling defective vehicles to solicit public opinions.
According to the regulation, manufacturers must cease producing, selling or importing defective vehicles and recall them upon identifying problems.
They are also obliged to take prompt remedies, such as providing repair, exchange and refund services.
Furthermore, manufacturers should keep records of sold automobiles and their first-hand buyers for at least 10 years.
Should defects be found in spare tires provided in the original packages, it is the obligation of manufacturers to recall, under the draft regulation.
It also provides that the nation's quality watchdogs, mainly the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, should disclose to the public information on defective cars and corresponding recalls.
