STOCKHOLM - Sweden's Trade Minister Ewa Bjorling presented an initiative on Tuesday to promote fashion exports to China.
"Swedish fashion is a red-hot trend throughout the world right now. But sales are concentrated in Europe, despite the fact that future growth will be created in new markets," Bjorling said in a statement days ahead of the Stockholm Fashion Week.
"We have to be at the forefront and this is why I am taking the initiative to support fashion companies' exports to the growth market that is China," she said.
Under the initiative, the Swedish Trade Council will be given the task of supporting Swedish fashion companies in China, according to the statement.
Leading Swedish fashion brands that intend to explore the Chinese market will take a joint delegation visit to China and attend a major fashion show in Shanghai in autumn, according to the statement.
"The aim is to position Swedish fashion design, increase its export share and publicize the image of Sweden in the Chinese market," Bjorling said.
The Stockholm Fashion Week will take place from February 6 to 12, when there will be shows, showrooms and fairs in Stockholm.
