Volvo Car Corp has started recruiting employees for its planned manufacturing plant in Daqing in China, according to Lars Danielsson, the company's head of production in China.
The carmaker plans to employ a team of 50 to 60 experts for the factory at the start of next year, Danielsson said.
Volvo Car Corp may increase its workforce by about 50 percent by 2020 to help meet its goal of selling 800,000 vehicles, Chief Executive Officer Stefan Jacoby said.
Volvo may expand the number of employees by more than 10,000 to as many as 35,000, said Jacoby. Most of the jobs will be created in China, where Volvo’s owner, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co, is based.
The Swedish carmaker has "no signs" of a downturn in its business and its order book is "well stocked" through early 2012, Jacoby added.
