Topic 1:
Chinese basketball star Yao Ming attended a ceremony in Shanghai on Sept 22 with British billionaire Richard Branson to call on people to stop eating shark fin soup. Eating the soup is considered to be a status symbol and is widely served at top-class restaurants on the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The increasing demand leads to the large-scale slaughter of sharks, putting many other species in danger as well. Yao's move attracted many comments from micro-bloggers.
YUANBAN-SEA IN WINTER: Inform people that shark's fin is contaminated with mercury and then no one will eat it any more. Environmental conservation can be this easy.
SANKEMAOBINGGAN: Say "No" to shark's fin, bird's nest soup and fur. But what have these to do with an ordinary person like me? All of these luxury goods are what rich people enjoy.
PENGCHUANBING: This is the superstar's image and values.
MSHRAT: When there is no buying, there is no killing.
Topic 2:
From Sept 21, train ticket agencies started selling tickets for the National Day holidays. As this year's National Day holiday comes coincides with the traditional Double Ninth Festival, people's enthusiasm for celebrating is greater. That will cause the train tickets to be sold out soon. Micro-bloggers are in heated discussion about whether people have bought train tickets for the upcoming holidays.
LINCHENGKE: I waited in line for three hours before I got my ticket and it was just a standing-room only ticket.
QIANYIMAO-OH: The most depressing thing is that when you have bought the train ticket to go back home, whether you are able to get the return ticket becomes a big bother, which is exactly what happened to me. This makes me not want to go return home during the National Day holiday any more. It is really very annoying.
KENJIXINYI: I want to go back home but it turns out that all the tickets have been sold out. Just my luck.
