Manzhouli, a land port in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, imported 186,000 tons of paper pulp in the first quarter of this year, a rise of 28.4 percent on the same period of last year, according to local customs house.

The price hike is ascribed to difficulties in wood felling in Europe, America, Asia and Australia, which all suffered bad weather such as rain storms and blizzards at the beginning of this year.
China's demand for paper pulp is forecast to increase by 7 million tons this year, as against a growth of no more than 4 million tons in annual production at home. The gap between supply and demand is estimated at 3 million tons.
