Cross-Strait economic, trade and culture forum slated for July

BEIJING: The sixth Cross-Strait Economic, Trade and Culture Forum will be held in south China's Guangdong province from July 8 to 11, Yang Yi, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said Tuesday.

The forum will focus on cooperation in new industries and enhancing the competitiveness of both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Topics at the forum include promotion of cross-Strait cooperation in new energy, energy-saving, environmental protection and deepening economic cooperation, he said.

A seminar on culture and education will also be held during the four-day event.

The Taiwan-based Kuomintang's (KMT) honorary chairman, Wu Poh-hsiung, will head a delegation to the forum, according to Yang.

More than 400 industry leaders, experts and scholars from both the mainland and Taiwan will take part in the event.
