Sinotruk posts surging sales in first 3 months

BEIJING - China's top heavy truck maker, Sinotruk, said later Monday it sold 22,154 units of heavy trucks in the first quarter this year, a year-on-year rise of 45.08 percent.

The Jinan-based truck maker also reported a 58.75 percent increase in heavy truck production which totaled 38,000 units, said the company in a  statement filed with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

The company produced a total of 54,381 units of all kinds of trucks, including heavy ones, an increase of 66.06 percent year-on-year, and sold 53,915 units, up 69.07 percent, according to the statement.

The company didn't give figures on revenues and profits for the three months.

Revenues of Sinotruk rose 6.1 percent in 2009 to 20.36 billion yuan ($2.98 billion) from the previous year, and net profit fell 9.51 percent to 428 million yuan, according to a statement of the company last month.
