The new model from Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Co, making its China premiere at the Shanghai auto show, was officially went on sale Saturday.

The mid-sized sedan has three engine options: 2.0-liter MFI, 1.8-liter turbo and 2.8-liter V6. The 2.8-liter version produces a power of 140kw/6000rpm and its five-speed Tiptronic gearbox boasts a top torque of 260nm/3200rpm.

This version has a top speed of 210km/h and consumes only 7.1 liters of gasoline per 100 km. The Passat New Lingyu meets China's national IV emission standard.

Shanghai Volkswagen says the models combines Volkswagen's new designs with the special needs of the Chinese market.

The product has been thoroughly improved with a new exterior, new interior, more safety equipment and excellent control.

The Passat New Lingyu, which retails between 169,800 and 303,800 yuan, targets the modern elite who have a wise philosophy and solid, moderate attitude to life, and a thorough knowledge of superior substance.

Its positioning can be characterized as "solid, humanized, evolved for modern times". Analysts say the new model has a good price for value and it will put pressure on its main competitors Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

The sports car, making its world debut at the Shanghai auto show, is the new dimension of the Porsche line following the success of the 911, the Boxster/Cayman and the Cayenne model range.

To offer a broad combination of high performance and excellent comfort, the Panamera comes with no less than five unique innovations in technology, featured for the first time in a production model in the luxury performance class.

These innovations include double-clutch gearbox, start/stop system in conjunction with automatic transmission, new adaptive air suspension with add-on volume available on demand in each wheel spring, and active aerodynamics incorporating a multi-dimensional, extendable rear spoiler.

Three model variants of the Panamera all feature a power 4.8-liter V8 engine and Direct Fuel injection. The Panamera S accelerates to 100 km/h in only 5.4 seconds using its 400bhp power unit, whilst also boasting a highly economical fuel consumption rate of just 10.8 liters/100km.

The new Panamera model series will be available in China in early 2010. Their starting prices will be between 1.843 million and 2.49 million yuan.
