Brilliance to show all-electric concept in Shanghai

Brilliance Auto, a car manufacturer based in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang, will come out with an all-electric concept car at the upcoming 2009 Shanghai auto show this month, said Liu Zhigang, president of Brilliance Jinbei Auto.

The all-electric model is likely to be based on Splendor FRV as its prototype and its powertrain system will be possibly driven by fuel cells, a Brilliance insider said. The carmaker has set down a strategy regarding to new energy vehicle development, which includes R&D of fuel application technology, hybrid vehicles and fuel cell electrical vehicle.

Brilliance Auto will showcase eight models at the Shanghai auto show, including four new cars that are scheduled to go on sale after June, according to Liu.

The carmaker reportedly plans to roll out the FRV sedan, Splendor FRV Cross and some other models this year. It is set to promote a series of economic cars with about 1.0-liter engines in the future, too.
