10. Zhang Jian stabs a man to death to prevent forcible demolition
Villas under construction in Zhang's village. |
Zhang Jian, a 27-year old man from Benxi, northern China's Liaoning province, was sentenced to probation in March of 2009, as he stabbed a man to death in revolt against the demolition group who broke into his house by force and beat his family.
The tragedy was caused after a local property developer acquired the land of Zhang's house for building a villa. Zhang refused to leave.
After two years of fruitless negotiations for compensation for Zhang's family, the demolition group broke into Zhang's home to demolish the house by force on May 14, 2008.
Zhang Jian went crazy when seeing the group beat his wife on the face. In the confusion he stabbed a man with a knife and ran away. The group did not stop their demolition work after Zhang left. The injured man died two days later.
