Ministry curbs land use for overreaching sectors

Local land and resources bureaus have been ordered to inhibit the excessive capacity and repeated input of some industries for coordinating economic growth and restructuring, according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Land and Resources, Xinhuanet.com reported.

The ministry urged strengthening the planning and control of land use. Industries including iron and steel, cement, electrolytic aluminum, plate glass, coal chemical industry, polysilicon, wind power equipment and dock berth will not get approval of more land use.

But high tech, high added value, low cost and low emission industries will be given priority to obtain the land they need.

The notice also requires local authorities to keep a closer eye on farming land that is applied for industry use. Any industrial attempt to expand the scope of farming application will be prohibited.
