Beijing reports brisk market
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2009-10-02 10:18 The market was brisk in Beijing because of strong consumption demands from the National Day holiday season which started Thursday. The temporary traffic ban imposed in parts of the city Wednesday for an array of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Thursday seemed to have little impact on the market. A spokesman for Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce said Thursday that of more than 3,000 commercial outlets owned by 120 companies, four percent were closed all day long Wednesday, while many others closed ahead of the normal time. The sales, however, showed a rise of 14.61 percent in comparison with that of last year, said the spokesman. Well sold commodities included mooncakes, alcoholic drinks, tea, garments and cosmetics.
