"Two-thirds of the respondents said they were confident or very confident about the business prospect for 2009. More than 78 percent said they expected good business in the coming five years," said Christian Guertler, president of SwissCham Shanghai.

The 69 responding enterprises said they were not worried about future competition, while only six percent said they expected their market shares will shrink. Of the respondents, 70 percent said they look forward to do better.

Although rising labor cost is among the top concerns, the majority of respondents said they consider their current operation bases in the coastal region to be competitive.
