China to enhance quality checks by blacklisting violators
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2009-01-12 12:07 China will blacklist companies which violate laws and regulations on product quality together with more severe punishment, the country's quality watchdog said on Sunday. Wang Yong, director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, called for social supervision over untrustworthy companies to enhance product quality, as they will be exposed to the public in a blacklist. Inspection and quarantine departments will build a record on product quality and an evaluation system for quality rating, Wang said. According to Wang, 23,286 products from 20,699 companies, which fell into 237 categories, were checked last year. Meanwhile, 13,310 production certificates on 63 types of industrial products had been issued. In 2008, inspection and quarantine departments across the country uncovered $54.3 billion worth of goods which failed to meet required quality standards, according to the administration.
