Updated: 2008-06-12 14:39 Christoph Pusch joined the World Bank Group in 1998. During his career at the World Bank, he designed and oversaw the implementation of a disaster risk management portfolio of about $2.9 billion in the Europe and Central Asia and South Asia. This included the preparation of multi-sector damage and needs assessments and emergency recovery loans in response to catastrophic events such as Marmara Earthquake in Turkey, Asian Tsunami in Sri Lanka, and Pakistan Earthquake. In addition, Mr Pusch led the preparation of comprehensive regional Disaster Risk Management strategiesin Europe and Central Asia as well as South Asia and facilitated the inclusion of disaster risk management in the overall development strategy of both regions. He advised on and participated in the establishment of the Bank's Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and implemented the program as Regional Coordinator GFDRR in South Asia. Mr Pusch introduced and promoted innovative approaches and up-stream business line development products such as ex-ante risk mitigatin projects and the establishment of an earthquake catastrophe risk insurance pool. His professional achievements also include the establishment of effective and constructive partnerships and donor coordination mechanisms rewarded in one case with the President's Award for Excellence in context with the Turkey Marmara Emergency Reconstruction Program.
