PetroChina resumes oil supply to quake-hit areas

Updated: 2008-05-19 10:31 PetroChina, the country's largest oil producer, said Sunday that it had resumed oil product supply in several counties hardest hit by earthquake in Sichuan Province. Four gas stations in Wenchuan County, two in Lixian County and another two in Maoxian County had restored operation by 5 p.m. Sunday, said the company in a statement. A powerful quake rocked Wenchuan County, 159 kilometers northwest of the Sichuan provincial capital city of Chengdu, at 2:28 p.m. Monday. PetroChina said it had dispatched 16 tank trucks and 5 mobile fuel tankers to Wenchuan and were scheduled to arrive there next Monday to enhance the oil supply capabilities in the region. The Sichuan sales branch of PetroChina said the company was fully capable of meeting the disaster relief demands due to sufficient follow-up oil supplies. The death toll from the May 12 earthquake, China's worst in decades, rose to 32,476 nationwide as of 2 p.m. Sunday, with 220,109 injured, according to the emergency response office of the State Council, the Cabinet.
