China, the world's biggest mobile-phone market by subscribers, added the biggest number of wireless users in almost a year, led by new customers from rural areas.

Chinese mobile-phone operators added 6.7 million subscribers to bring the total to 480.7 million in March, the Ministry of Information Industry said in a statement on its Website yesterday. That's the biggest increase since April 2006. Total additions for the quarter were 19.6 million, the Beijing-based regulator said. The nation gained 1.16 million fixed-line subscribers last month for a total of 371 million as of the end of March, according to the statement. About 3.2 million people signed up for fixed-line services from January to March.
