Enterprises that violate environmental protection rules will find it hard to secure bank loans, according to the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA).

Zhang Lijun, vice-director of SEPA, said that the national environmental watchdog would blacklist companies that violate anti-pollution laws and include them on a database that will be submitted to the People's Bank of China beginning April 1.

Zhang said that he hoped cooperation between SEPA and the central bank would force companies to be more self-disciplined in environmental protection and controlling their pollutant discharge.
