Jiangsu tops other provinces by premium

East China's Jiangsu Province posted insurance premiums of 50.28 billion yuan (US$6.47 billion) in 2006, accounting for 8.9 percent of the country's total, according to figures from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.

The figure represented a growth of 14.98 percent from 2005, making Jiangsu the first province in China to realize a premium revenue of more than 50 billion yuan.

In fact, Jiangsu's premium revenue increased by 12 percent or above for three consecutive years and has been ahead of other provinces in the country for four consecutive years in terms of premiums.

Its property insurance premiums rose 28.6 percent year-on-year to hit 12.04 billion yuan in 2006 while life insurance premiums reached 38.24 billion yuan, up 11.26 percent.
