Internal-combustion engine output to hit 17m units by 2010

The internal-combustion engine industry will witness an average annual increase of around ten percent in total output and output value during the11th Five-Year Programperiod, the industrial research department of the Machinery Industry Information Center predicted according to national economy and market development.

Output of single-cylinder diesel engines, multi-cylinder diesel engines (including alternative fuel engines) and multi-cylinder gasoline engines (including alternative fuel engines, hybrid power) will reach 6-7 million units, 4.2 million units and 5.79 million units by 2010 respectively, according to the center's predicitons.

Key research, development and production for engine manufacturers will be focused on a new generation of single-cylinder diesel engines and small general gasoline engines, diesel engines for trucks, buses and passenger cars meeting the Euro III, Euro IV emission standards and energy-saving requirements, a new generation of gasoline engines for passenger cars (including SUV and MPV) meeting the Euro III, Euro IV emission standards and energy-saving, various alternative fuel (compressed natural gas, liquid natural gas, alcohol and ether) engines for matching passenger cars and large and medium buses and hybrid power engines for passenger cars and large and medium buses.
