HK to strengthen transportation ability via cooperation

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will strengthen cooperation with the Chinese mainland, especially the Pearl River Delta region, to consolidate Hong Kong's transportation ability, said Stephen Ip, secretary for Economic Development and Labour of the regional government.

Promoted by the 11th Five-Year Program, the economy of the Chinese mainland will witness sustainable and stable expansion and the booming imports and export trade will bring a great deal of business opportunities to Hong Kong's logistics industry, said Ip. However, new challenges also exist for Hong Kong's role as the main portal to enter the Chinese mainland following South China's rapid development.

The government of the special administrative region should adopt various measures to support the comprehensive development of port shipping and logistics by taking advantage of the opportunity brought by rapid development in the Pearl River Delta region.
