COFCO buys sixth ethanol base

China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation (COFCO), the country's main fuel ethanol producer, bought a 20.74 percent stake of Fengyuan Biochemistry Company in November.

The Fengyuan project, with a 440,000-ton-per-year production capacity, is COFCO's sixth ethanol base. COFCO now has 1.25 million tons of ethanol production capacity , said sources.

COFCO bought an ethanol plant in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province and a 20 percent stake in another plant in Northeast China's Jilin Province. There are three projects that are under construction. It is expected that COFCO's ethanol production capacity will breach two million tons.
