On December 20, 2000£¬the former China TieTong - China Railway Communication Co Ltd (China Railcom), was founded. on January 20, 2004, it was shifted from the Ministry of Railways to the administration of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) and its name was changed to China TieTong Telecommunications Corporation. Since its incorporation, China TieTong has become a major state-owned basic telecommunications operator.

With total assets of 42.4 billion yuan and a staff of 72,000, China TieTong has established 31 provincial braches, 316 municipal branches and five holding subsidiaries. With its networks characterized by nationwide coverage, advanced technology and complete functions, in addition to various value-added services, currently the company also offers basic telecom services to the public, including: domestic/international voice, data, image and multimedia communications, and domestic communications resource leasing service.
