Profile The city of Yunfu borders the cities of Zhaoqing and Jiangmen to the east, the cities of Yangjiang and Maoming to the south and Wuzhou in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to the west. Situated in a subtropical zone, the city enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate and plenty of rainfall. The summer is long while winter is short. The city has an ideal climate with an average temperature of 21.5 degrees centigrade. And the city's rainfall volume reaches 1,202.4 millimetres. Covering an area of 7,779 square kilometres, Yunfu has farmland of more than 834,667 hectares, including more than 674,667 hectares of paddy fields. Currently, the city has a population of more than 2.5 million, including an urban population of 762,100 and 1.7 million farmers. Yunfu was the home to more than 800,000 overseas Chinese, who are now living in more than 100 countries and regions around the world. The census indicates that a total of 14 ethnic groups are living in Yunfu, and the Han people represent more than 99 per cent of the total. Yunfu has abundant natural resources. It has more than 50 mineral reserves and is a major marble and stone material production base in the Chinese mainland. Yunfu's agricultural products and fruits are also well-known at home and abroad. Approved by the State Council, Yunfu was upgraded to be a prefecture-level city in April 1994. It became the youngest prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province. Currently, Yuncheng District, the counties of Yun'an, Yu'nan, Xinxing and the county-level city of Luoding are under its jurisdiction.
