China mulls Himalayan oil pipe

China is considering building an oil pipeline along the Himalayan mountains from Gwadar Port to Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said Naeem Khan, Counsellor of the Pakistani Embassy in China.

Although there may be some geographical problems with the pipeline construction, China is still showing great interest, for it helps China reduce its dependency on the Malacca Channel, said an offical from the Kashi area of Xinjiang. Statistics show that currently more than 80 percent of the oil coming to China must pass through the Malacca Channel.
