American-born luxury brand Acura owned by Honda Motor Co unveiled the brand-new 2010 MDX to the media on Nov 23 at the Seventh Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition. Acura has updated the SUV for 2010, adding a number of style changes along with brand-new 6-speed transmission and updated "Super Handling All-Wheel Drive" (SH-AWD) power system to keep pace with its rivals. The latest model will be available on Chinese market in January next year. Atsuyoshi Hyogo, chairman and president of Honda's regional operations (China), said the MDX's new and advanced transmission, SH-AWD power system and other intelligent functions give the 2010 version the utmost in driving pleasure. Acura's marketing for the MDX continues to target "unassuming young buyers who pursue a realistic life and driving pleasure with great passion and energy", according to the company. The 2010 MDX features a fresh new exterior look, an enhanced powertrain that includes a new 6-speed automatic transmission, chassis refinements, more comfort and an even great range of hi-tech. Visually, the 7-passenger 2010 MDX shows more aggressive styling in its new front and rear bodywork, a new front grille and numerous trim enhancements. Other details include a reworked hood, new side sills, polished stainless-steel exhaust tips and brighter LED taillights. Honda has given the MDX a 3.7-liter V6 engine that teams with the new transmission for better performance and improved fuel efficiency. Acura was created in America in 1986. The name derives from the word "accurat", meaning to achieve a high level of precision. The Acura name represents our commitment to demonstrate Honda's strength in manufacturing products that achieve precision at the highest level in the field of top-end automobiles, Hyogo said. Moreover, unlike other luxury car brands, Acura has been designed with "creating new value" in mind, with advanced technology to provide owners with the pure joy of driving. The all-new MDX is said to provide the highest "joy of driving" even among the Acura product lineup. The 2010 model MDX enhances the spirit with the further advancement of the vehicle's unique SH-AWD four-wheel drive system, along with the significant improvement to the transmission. To give customers with the joy of owning Acura vehicles, Acura's SH-AWD remains standard, ensuring the MDX's handling is confident on- and off-road with excellent foul weather performance. The 2010 MDX also offers a series of intelligent luxury functions for Chinese buyers integrating luxury and driving pleasure. As well, the model has received top marks by the US certification boards Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. For the first and only time in the history of IIHS testing, Acura earned the prestigious top safety rating for every vehicle in its entire lineup. Apart from 2010 MDX, Acura has brought the luxury sport TL and luxury sedan RL to the Guangzhou auto show, its three models now on sale in the Chinese market.
Services Ever since the establishment of Honda, the company has always placed the highest priority on original technologies as a means of achieving customer satisfaction. Honda's luxury brand Acura is its lastest bid to embody its corporate culture and philosophy in the best possible way, according Hyogo.
The number of Acura dealers has steadily increased and this year's sales are beyond its original plan, demonstrating the fact that the Acura brand is steadily and surely making its way into the Chinese market. As Acura began to expand its dealer network in 2006, it emphasized the most advanced services for Chinese buyers - free service every 5,000 km for four years or 100,000 km and emergency rescue and service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. An interface inside each dealership connects with the carmaker's headquarters technology center to provide more efficient repair and service via a video link. Acura has 22 full-service dealerships in China, including the newest in Tangshan in Hebei province and Erdos in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. (For more biz stories, please visit Industries)
