Can 'antiviral food' battle COVID-19?

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2020-03-12 00:00

Rumor: 'Antiviral food' can battle COVID-19.

Fact:

There is no clear evidence that so-called antiviral food - including garlic, lactoferrin and dried mushrooms - has antiviral effects. Although rich in nutrition, these foods can neither prevent nor cure the novel coronavirus  disease (COVID-19).

It is essential to keep a balanced diet during the epidemic, which requires reasonable daily intakes of meat and vegetables as well as coarse and refined grains. People also need to eat more fresh fruit and drink more water to strengthen their immune systems.
