NEW YORK: The Dow Jones industrial average jumped back above 10,000 on hope that the European Union will help Greece manage its growing debt burden.
The Dow's gain comes a day after it closed below 10,000 for the first time in three months.
Global markets are higher on reports that the EU is assembling a rescue plan for Greece. Investors have worried the problems could spill into other markets.
The Dow is up 150 at 10,059, a day after falling 104. The Standard & Poor's 500 is up 14 at 1,071. The Nasdaq composite index is up 25 at 2,151.
More than three stocks rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume came to 1.2 billion shares compared with 1.1 billion Monday.
