Filipino Chinese businessman killed in poll violence

COTABATO CITY, Philippines: A Filipino Chinese businessman running for a local position in the upcoming elections was killed Monday in an poll-related violence in southern Philippines.

Police director Senior Superintendent Willy Dangane said Joseph Kwan Datuwata, a candidate for councilor in Cotabato city, was about to leave his home with his two children when he was attacked by armed men at around 7:00 am local time.

Dangane said Datuwata's sons were injured in the attack.

Datuwata, 42, was running under the party of mayoral candidate Bai Zeny Dilangalen, wife of Maguindanao 1st district Representative Didagen Dilangalen.
