The result of the Second National Physique Monitoring Survey in 2005 shows
that Chinese physical condition had improved slightly and better than six years
ago, especially youth and children.
However at the same time more Chinese adults were overweight, and the
urban people usually have better shapes than those living in the countryside.
The result of the survey was jointly released by General Administration of
Sport of China (GASC) and the Ministry of Education on Monday.
Shen Zhiguo, a senior official of GASC, said experts found four trends from
the result of the survey.
First, the overall Chinese are slightly physically fitter than six years ago,
and bodily shapes have improved over these years.
Second, nearly one third of adult males are overweight, and most of them are
white collars.
Third, people aged between 20 and 69 in urban areas are fitter than those in
rural areas.
Fourth, more economically developed coastal areas have better physique, like
Shanghai, Jiangsu and Shandong.
