The primary focus of the meeting
was to further develop the current draft of the Classification Code, which will
be forwarded to the Governing Board for comments in November. Key areas of the
Code reviewed were the definition of classification in the Paralympic Movement
and Eligibility.
The most current draft of the Classification Code was forwarded to the
Classification Committee in September by the Classification Code Working Group.
The six-member Working Group last met in August at the University Hospital
Rehabilitation Centre in Salt Lake City, USA, to make final changes to version
2.2 for recommendation to the Classification Committee.
Trish Jensen, IPC Classification Committee Chairperson, said: "The
Classification Code Working Group has dedicated outstanding work and time
commitment to the creation of the Classification Code. It is an important step
in classification for the future of the Paralympic Movement."
The next draft of the Classification Code and International Standards will be
forwarded to the IPC membership for comments on 1 December 2006. The final draft
of the Code will be presented to the IPC General Assembly for approval in 2007.
